Welcome To The Evara Health Family Medicine Residency Program!
The Evara Health Family Medicine Residency Program is an exciting program dedicated to the training, education and development of caring, mature, professionally competent, and Family Medicine board eligible physicians. We strive to deliver the highest quality, evidenced-based, compassionate patient centered care to the community. The program provides diverse clinical training across outpatient and inpatient settings in Tampa Bay combined with excellent didactics and active learning methodologies covering the entire spectrum of Family Medicine. The program is based at Evara Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that has been providing affordable, primary care services to residents of Pinellas County, Florida for over 40 years. Evara’s mission is to innovate beyond the barriers that limit access to quality healthcare, ensuring everyone can receive industry-leading services from professional teams that care as much as family. Many of the patients served are considered low-income, with a significant portion falling below the poverty line.
The residency program is part of the Teaching Health Center Planning and Development (THCPD) initiative funded by the Federal Government. The goal of the THCPD initiative is to expand graduate medical education (GME) to FQHCs in order to close care gaps and address physician shortages in Family Medicine. The program has 6 residents per class and is primarily focused on outpatient Community care, preparing Family Physicians to work in FQHCs, public health and private practice, preferably to communities in need in the Tampa Bay area. The program’s clinical sites include the FHC at Evara Health, Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, Morton Plant Hospital, Bay Pines VA Hospital and specialty private practices in the Tampa Bay area. Didactics occur during a weekly academic half-day. Didactics include lectures, case conferences, journal clubs, wellness activities, workshops, in training exam prep and review, and grand rounds.
During this three-year program, residents will complete a comprehensive Family Medicine curriculum. Residents will participate in evidenced-based, patient centered care of people with a wide scope of medical conditions in inpatient, outpatient, residential and community settings. This will allow the residents to gain a full understanding of what Family Medicine physicians can offer to their patients. Residents also can participate in the Osteopathic Recognition track and graduate with a certificate in Osteopathic Manipulation Treatment. Additionally, residents can complete the Lifestyle Medicine curriculum and elective which makes them eligible to sit for the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine upon graduation. Residents will be evaluated frequently and provided feedback on their performance and achievement of the ACGME Family Medicine milestones. Residents are expected to participate in quality improvement projects and complete an academic project during their training.
